Dutch travellers have to adapt to local habits. In France, Germany and Spain cash is still popular, while in the United Kingdom people mostly pay by card. Preparing for that makes travelling more efficient and avoids hassle.
It all revolves around one question: "I'm going on holiday and I'm taking... cash or card?" By choosing a destination in the interactive infographic, you see which payment method is most common there and how many ATMs there are per resident, so you know how easy it is to withdraw cash.
With the built-in Cash Calculator you enter your budget and get specific advice on how much cash to bring, based on the local ratio between cash and electronic payments.
A scrollytelling timeline takes you from the countries where cash is still king to destinations where almost everything is digital. Detailed data is available for every destination, including a comparison with the Netherlands.
